A muslim female when she has reached mature age (sparked
by monthly period) obliged to wear clothes covering all part of her body except
face and hand. This is physical law from Allah SWT. Don’t avoid it by saying “I must cover my
heart/soul first”. The rule of Allah is stated below :
“And
say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their
modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what
must ordinarily appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their
bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers,
their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, or
their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons, or their women or the servants
whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or
small children who have no sense of the shame of sex, and that they should not
strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O
you Believers, turn you all together towards Allah, that you may attain Bliss.”
(Quran 24:31).
“O
Prophet, tell your wives and your daughters and the women of the believers to
draw their cloaks close round them (when they go abroad). That will be better,
so that they may be recognised and not annoyed. Allah is ever Forgiving,
Merciful.” (Quran 33:59)
Muslimah wardrobe is not just a matter of
covering. There are rules that must be obeyed to make a proper form of worship.
How to measure a proper muslimah wardrobe? Take a look at the picture below. The right-est is the right
way how a muslimah should wear their clothes. I admit, I haven’t done it yet,
I’m at stage 6-7. I feel the guilty feeling whenever I realize that I wear a
not proper muslimah wear. Where is the learning limit? None.
In detail, these are basic rules how a muslimah should wear clothes :
- Covering all part of body, put special attention in covering neck, arm, hair, ankle. Part that can be seen only face and hand palms. What about Arab women? They culturally wear black niqab covering face (except eyes) and palms which is common in dry climate Arab region. They are happy and free to wear these kind of dress and people who consider themselves as a ‘freedom warrior” should appreciate. We’re free to obey Allah SWT, rite?
- No tight, no transparent material. Covering is not the same as wrapping, covering is not showing the shape of your body.
Islam also doesn’t suggest colorful dress or
style that can attracts the opposite sex. Nowadays, hijabers style has become
trends with their high-fashionably wear, colorful material and accesories. I notice
a large growth of stylist muslim designers in Indonesia. Unfortunately, many of
them don’t consider rules mentioned
above. Fashion industry also drives women to do more shopping and shopping
(consumptive because of its neverending clothing-bag-shoes-etc models). That
can lead to a provokative feeling to be valued ‘attractive’ by non-mahram. Islam
is so detail even for rules about how to wear hijab stated
in Prophet Muhammad saw Sunnah.
Sahih
Muslim Hadith 5310 Narrated by Abu
Hurayrah
Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘Two are the types of the
denizens of Hell whom I did not see: people having flogs like the tails of the
ox with them and they would be beating people, and the women who would be dressed but appear to be naked, who would be
inclined (to evil) and make others incline towards it. Their heads would
be like the humps of the bukht camel inclined to one side. They will not enter
Paradise and they would not smell its odour whereas it odour would be smelt
from such and such distance (from great distance).’
Sahih
Muslim Hadith 6840 Narrated by Abu
Hurayrah
Allah's Messenger (saws) said: ‘There are two types, amongst
the denizens of Hell, I have yet not seen them. One possessing whips like the
tail of an ox and they flog people with them. (The second one) the women who would be naked in spite of their being
dressed, who are seduced (to wrong paths) and seduce others with their
hair high like humps. These women would not get into Paradise and they would not
perceive the odour of Paradise, although its fragrance can be perceived from
such and such distance (from great distance).’
If
the woman who wears tight, revealing, or transparent clothes which accentuate
her body and curves in public and in front of non-mehrams, and thus seduces or
inclines others towards evil; she would come under the category of women whom
the Messenger of Allah (saws) foretold would be ‘dressed but appear to be
naked’. If such woman were to die in
this state without seeking forgiveness for her transgression, the Messenger of
Allah (saws) warned that these women would not only be prohibited from entering
Paradise, even the sweet fragrance of Paradise which can be perceived from an
enormous distance would not be smelt by her!
Wallahualam hibisshawab. May Allah forgive us and
purify our hearts as there are so much need to be forgiven. Aamiin.
